The Public Art Team of the Metuchen Downtown Alliance is seeking artists for the creation of an “Arts Pavilion”, a temporary structure designed to stand within a footprint of 7′ x 4′ for a period of three months. The structure needs to be solidly anchored and able to withstand the weather of Central New Jersey during July, August and September.
The structure is part of a Summer project in the Borough with the theme of “Language” and can be as fanciful or as simply structured as the artist desires. This project can be taken on by an individual or a team. For the Language Project, the MDA is creating an intimate outdoor performance space for weekly evening gatherings in the downtown Imagination Alley. The “Arts Pavilion” will enhance /encompass solo or small group performances of storytelling, poetry, book reading, music, etc. in the Alley, without restricting egress at non-performance times.
The Pavilion carries a $1000 stipend to be paid in increments: $600 upon acceptance of the commission; $200 upon successful installation, $200 upon removal in the first week of October.
