Call to Artists – Decorative Adirondack Chairs For the ‘Language’ Project

The Public Art Team of the Metuchen Downtown Alliance is seeking artists to decorate Adirondack chairs created from re-purposed wooden pallets. The chairs will be already assembled for the artists to use as a Canvas.

The chairs are part of a larger ‘Language’ themed project. While political and religious comments will not be welcome, designs that highlight the multiculturalism of Metuchen are encouraged.

Artists are responsible for securing their own materials which can include mixed-media. When the chairs are completed, however, they must still be functional as places on which to sit.

Each chair carries a $200 stipend, payable upon the successful delivery of the chair.

The project will begin June 28 with an unveiling and conclude early October, at which time the chairs will be auctioned off to benefit additional Public Art projects.
